Unite the Resistance National Convention

Unite the Resistance – National Convention
Saturday 19 November, 11am – 5pm
The Royal Horticultural Halls
London

From uniteresist.org:

From Cairo to Wall Street and Athens to Barcelona resistance is growing. And on 30 November that resistance comes to Britain.

On that day three million trade unionists in Britain are set to strike to save their pensions, oppose the government’s austerity plans and save jobs. It is a struggle everyone should support.

Anti-cuts campaigners, students, pensioners and the unemployed will join them. It will be the most important battle for a generation.

A group of trade union activists have got together to launch a convention on Saturday 19 November. It will give everyone a chance to debate key questions such as how we build the most effective action on 30 November; uniting our communities against the Tory government’s cuts, and the international struggle against austerity.

The convention will be the biggest gathering of trade unionists, anti cuts campaigners, pensioners and young people this country has seen since the 1980s. It will also be different from other conferences – plenty of time will be given to activists to debate and discuss the way forward for our movement.

Close to 600 people have now registered for the event and 124 organisations have sponsored the convention.

A further 36 union branches are meeting this week and have support for the convention on their agenda. Here is a flavour of the delegations coming: Shropshire and Telford TUC (five delegates), Camden Unison (two delegates), CWU Eastern Division (two delegates), CWU South Central (ten delegates), London Region RMT (two delegates), City and Islington UCU (five delegates), Gateshead Unison (two delegates), Dudley NUT (four delegates), USDAW North London branch (two delegates), Portsmouth Unison (ten delegates), Dudley NUT (four delegates), Sandwell Unison (open number of delegates), Southampton Unite (ten delegates), USDAW North London (two delegates) and USDAW Welham Green (two delegates).

We have another 14 union branches and seven other organisations sending delegations.

If you haven’t done so already please make sure you raise support for the convention at your next union/organisation meeting.

Not everyone can get a delegation of ten to come to the convention, but everyone of us can sign up one or two activists/reps at our workplace or can sign up a campaign activist that we work with. If we did this we would create the basis of building a real national rank and file network.

Please make sure you book your place as soon as possible.
